• Sweetest Day, October 17th - I'm so grateful to the candy and card companies for this one!  Gentlemen, I forgot a girlfriend's birthday once, so my experience says - "don't forget this day.
• Halloween, October 31st - this is very big holiday in our neighborhood.  Get out there and enjoy some candy.

• Apple Facts - The crabapple is the only apple native to North America. Two pounds of apples make one 9-inch pie. The world's largest apple peel was created by Kathy Wafler Madison on October 16, 1976, in Rochester, NY. It was 172 feet, 4 inches long. (She was 16 years old at the time.) • Why does Jello gel? According to Kraft foods, Gelatin powder is made of crystals that dissolve when placed into hot or boiling water. When the solution cools, the crystals clump together into a gel that traps the water.
• Why does popcorn pop? According to the Popcorn Board (http://www.popcorn.org/), Popcorn Kernels contain a small amount of water inside the hard outer casing.  When heated, the water expands until the casing bursts. This allows the water to escape in the form of steam and turns the kernel inside out.
• College Football is in full swing and that means tailgating.  According to the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service: Keep hot food hot at 140 degrees or above. Keep cold foods cold - cooked chicken and potato salad must be kept at 40 degrees or below......And, keep raw meat on ice until you are ready to cook (who would have known?)

Larry O's Sweet 'n Hot Chicken Wings

Ingredients

• 2 pounds chicken wings
• salt
• pepper
• 1/4 cup cayenne hot sauce
• 1/4 cup honey
• 1/2 tsp minced garlic

Instructions

Salt and pepper chicken wings on both sides. Place wings on a hot grill until done. Combine honey, hot sauce and garlic in a mixing bowl and stir. Add the fully cooked wings to the mixture. Toss them to coat thoroughly and serve.
