September Brings You a FREE Butt Rub!

Hello Everyone,

Here in Florida it is cooling down just enough to start enjoying the summer (or perhaps your fall)!  And this means a return to our backyard grills, smokers and campfires.

To celebrate nicer weather here in Florida, every order over $25 in September qualifies for a FREE Award Winning Butt Rub!  Visit Faith Avatar on our website to learn how to get your Free Butt Rub.

With the popularity of Labor Day, some of the other important, national events in September are often over-looked:

  • National Honey Month - Did you know honey has a long history of beauty secrets? According to the National Honey Board, Cleopatra regularly took honey and milk baths to maintain her youthful appearance. It was said that Queen Anne of England used a honey and oil concoction to keep her long hair lustrous, thick and shiny.
  • National Biscuit Month (how fortuitous this coincides with National HoneDat'l Do-It Devil Drops Hot Sauce from St Augustine, FLy Month) - you can watch a video on How to Make Homemade Southern Biscuits.
  • National Potato Month - Did you know that a medium size potato with its skin provides 45% of the Daily Value (DV) vitamin C, 18% DV of potassium, 10%  DV of vitamin B6 and that the fiber content is comparable with many whole grain breads and cereals?
  • National Pleasure Your Mate Month - I'm smoking some ribs for my mate. Does that count?

In this month's issue, you will find:

  • Sauce of the Month Clubs
  • Other Important Stuff You Didn't Know that You Needed
  • Recipes of the Month

Other Important Stuff You Didn't Know You Needed

  • According to the Accidental Hedonist, a study in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition found that a dollar could buy 1,200 calories of potato chips or 875 calories of soda, but just 250 calories of vegetables or 170 calories of fresh fruit.  Could that be because the good stuff costs more?Dairy Cows, The Missouri NRCS Photo Gallery, U. S. Department of Agriculture.
  • A dairy cow can generate 120 lbs. of waste each day, totaling about 40,000 lbs. per year!  The Straus Family Creamery has figured out how to convert the natural occurring gas from the manure into electricity!
  • Papa John’s founder, John Schnatter, finally located his gold-and-black 1971 Z28 that he sold in 1983 to help save his father’s tavern and eventually finance his pizza chain. He paid a $250,000 reward to Jeff Robinson in Flatwoods, Kentucky who had bought it a few years earlier for $4,000.
  • September 5th is "Be Late for Something Day".
  • September 18th is "National Play-Doh Day".  According to holidayinsights.com, Play-Doh was created in 1955 by Joseph McVicker in Cincinnati, Ohio. It was created because his sister-in-law wanted a safe, clay-like product for her nursery school children to use.

Bob's Hot Wings

I got this recipe from my friend, Bob, about 15 years ago.  I've been making this recipe for years and recently got Bob's permission to disclose his long closely-held secret.

Ingredients
  • 3 to 4 pounds chicken wings
  • 1 stick melted butter
  • 1.5 cups Louisiana Hot Sauce
  • 3 packages Good Seasons Italian salad dressing mix
  • 2-3 tablespoons basil
  • Medium Hot Salsa to taste - either Sherie's Garden Salsa Hot or Elliott's Hot Salsa
Instructions
  1. Bake wings on a cookie sheet or shallow baking pan in the oven at 350 degrees for 30 to 40 minutes.  While wings are baking, mix together other ingredients together thoroughly.
  2. Remove wings from oven and pour mixture over the wings.
  3. Return to oven and bake for another 30 to 40 minutes or until they are done.
  4. Serve with celery and ranch or blue cheese dressing.
These wings are hot and have a lot of flavor!

There’s an old wive’s tale that says at the exact moment of the equinox, when the world is in balance, you can balance an egg on its end.  This is true…but it’s also true that you can do it any other day of the year.
