Welcome to the July Newsletter
Hello Everyone,
Summer is in full swing now. July 4th is Independence Day and also in July is National Blueberry Month, National Baked Bean Month, National Grilling Month, National Picnic Month, National Parks and Recreation Month (doesn't that sound a lot like June's Great Outdoors Month?) and let's don't forget National Gummi Worm Day on July 15th!
In the spirit of fun in the sun, family gatherings and National Grilling Month, we have continued to grow our barbecue sauce offering. Just to name a few items added in June:
-
-
Notch BBQ's Mustard/Apple Sauce based BBQ Sauce.
-
-
We have also expanded the Pepper Jelly offering to 14 different flavors. In July we will add 4 additional pepper jellies to include a pepper jelly made with Naga Jolokia (a.k.a. "Ghost Pepper"). The Naga is the hottest pepper in the world.
National Blueberry Month
As the health benefits of these delicious fruits have become better understood, the demand for blueberries has grown. Blueberries are packed with antioxidants, have significant levels of vitamin C, manganese, vitamin E and dietary fiber.
Over 90% of the world's blueberries are grown in the U.S. Now that July is here, there is more supply from Georgia and other midwestern states. This has resulted (like every year) in a drop in prices for the consumer. In Florida you can visit a "You Pick" farm and gather blueberries for $3 per pound. If you are wondering what to do with all of those blueberries, how about a blueberry pie? The recipe for one of the easiest and best blueberry pies you will ever find is available on our blog.
National Baked Bean Month
It seems like back yard grilling always is a good excuse for some Baked Beans. Over at about.com there is a wide selection of Baked Bean recipes or you can access my family's Rum Baked Beans recipe at our website.
Gummi Worm Day
According to zanyholidays.com, the first gummi worms were manufactured by Trolli (a German company) in 1981. Gummi Worms have become so popular that the "worm" is the most popular type of gummi candy; even supassing Gummi Bears.
In this month's issue, you will find:
July Featured Products
If you are looking for a good, healthy snack while out enjoying the outdoors, consider some of our beef jerky. We carry five different flavors from Joey D's Jerky and Mingua Brothers.
Similar to the increasing demand for blueberries, beef jerky is also seeing an increased popularity due to its health benefits. Beef Jerky has virtually no fat and is very high in protein. A typical 30 gram portion of jerky contains 10-15 grams of protein, 1 gram of fat, and 0-3 grams of carbohydrates. Making jerky is one of the earliest known food preservation techniques. Although beef remains the most common type of jerky, you can find jerky made from elk, venison, moose, ostrich, alligator, salmon and more. Jerky does not need to be refrigerated. Combine this along with it's health benefits and you have the perfect snack for enjoying the outdoors.
This month's featured partner is the family-owned "Joey D's Jerky", run by master jerky make
r Joseph "Joey" DiSalvo, who has spent more than ten years perfecting the tastes and flavors of his gourmet products.
What started out as a friendly competition with a co-worker over who could make the best jerky has now mushroomed into a flourishing business with a growing customer base of enthusiastic fans.
It was back in 1999 that Joey acquired a small hydrator and started to make jerky. He competed against a friend to see who could come up with the best tasting jerky. Other friends could see – and taste – the potential and encouraged him to experiment more.
Armed with a five-tray dehydrator, Joey began testing different combinations of spices. “I think my friends just wanted me to make jerky for them, but I also started to make jerky for trips, family outings and I would take it in for snacks at work,” Joey said. “My friends and family were the guinea pigs for the concoctions I came up with but before long I was getting requests for different styles and tastes".
Joey realized that his jerky had serious commercial potential after a friend bought another product off the Internet. He told Joey it was the worst he had ever tasted, so Joey gave him some of his own to try. “He said it was the best jerky he had ever tasted and he became Joey’s first paying customer.
“Joey D’s Jerky has a world famous taste and is a product that all true jerky lovers need to experience,” said Joey. “Every bite is like biting into a little piece of heaven.”
At ArmadilloPepper.com, you can purchase Joey D’s Original and Teriyaki gourmet jerky. It is made from the finest ingredients and prepared in small batches to concentrate quality, freshness and taste. Try it for yourself and experience a real taste bud sensation.
